Pet Alert

Before all the homes were built in our community, some local wild foxes roamed the area and called an area of East Beach their home. Some of these foxes and/or their follow-on generations continue to roam our neighbor as well as East Beach. Recently, several of these foxes have been seen stalking some neighborhood cats – the last incident being during the early evening of July 20th. Without intervention, a normal house cat may lose an engagement with a hungry fox. The good news, to date there has been no reported cat loses to the foxes, nor have the foxes made advances to residents. Cats, like dogs, should be monitored when outside the house — especially at night.

Security Alert

Recent website articles have provided the Norfolk Police’s “non-emergency” telephone number for your use in reporting potential problems. However, during our HOA meeting on May 18th, Norfolk Police representatives informed everyone to use “911” first to report situations needing police actions. Please make note of this revised procedure.

During that same May 18th meeting, police representatives also discussed the recent crimes within our community – two break-ins in 2009. We need to enhance our crime awareness and make sure our homes are secure. If you have questions regarding your home’s security, the Norfolk Police Department will provide a free inspection of your home – merely contact the Crime Prevention Unit @ 664-6901 and arrange your inspection.

Community Alert

On Tuesday afternoon/early evening (May 12th), a teenager approached several homes within Bay Breeze Point trying to obtain points for a trip. At some homes, the teenager told the occupants he was not asking for money or selling anything but would receive points toward getting funds for education if he collected so many business cards.

The teenager stopped at the author’s home and went through a similar dialogue; he even suggested that I could purchase magazines and have them delivered to a charity like St Jude. When I refused to participate, he became annoyed and told me I was wasting his time.

Similar activities have been reported in other communities like the Bay View section of Ocean View. Our neighborhood does not endorse door-to-door solicitations and, in fact, door-to-door solicitors need City approval. If solicitors show up at your door, be cautious. And, if the solicitor makes you feel uncomfortable, please call the police.

Traffic Alert for Saturday, April 25th

“TRAFFFIC ALERT” for SATURDAY, APRIL 25TH BETWEEN 7:30 TO 10:00 AM

East Beach will be hosting the Annual Chesapeake Bay 10k with the majority of the running course located within East Beach.

This year the Chesapeake Bay 10K has partnered with the beautiful waterfront community of East Beach for the 6th running of the Chesapeake Bay 10K; now named the East Beach Chesapeake Bay 10K. We think you will all be pleased with the move to East Beach where life returns to a simpler time. A time when pedestrians were part of the landscape, and cars were not. A time when housing styles were diverse and interesting, neighborhood streets were smaller, sidewalks were everywhere, neighborhood shopping was within walking distance, and massive expanses of concrete and asphalt were nowhere to be found. A time when life — and everything about it — was simpler. East Beach. A simple life on the Chesapeake Bay.

More specific information, including exact race course, can be found on the web at: http://chesapeakebay10k.kalerunning.com/index.html

Beach Nourishment Project to Start Soon

Update: After being informed on January 22, 2009 that the planned Beach
replenishment for BBP area will be delayed until next winter due to late
contracting efforts and availability of economical providers, a change has
been announced with the below email from Lee Rosenberg:

“I just wanted to get some advance word to Bay Breeze and Bay Oaks II
residents that we will be nourishing the beach this year.
The project will start in a few weeks with the mobilization of equipment
with sand to be pumped on the beach by the first part of March and be
completed by April 15th. The project will extend from the Little Creek
jetties down to 17th Bay Street and involve pumping sand from a hopper
dredge offshore. Sand is coming from the Thimble Shoal Channel.”
Thanks, Lee
