The BOD meeting minutes have been added for September 2011.
The October 2011 Bay Breeze Point BOD monthly meeting will be held on the 17th at Southern Bank (formerly known as the Bank of the Commonwealth) @ 1901 East Ocean View Ave, Norfolk VA beginning at 6:00 PM.
The next open meeting of the East Ocean View Civil League (EOVCL) is scheduled for October 6th — see attached Fall EOVCL newsletter for details and other information. Fall EOVCL Newsletter
Community Traffic Alert for October 1st: Most of the main streets within East Beach will be closed on Saturday, October 1st to facilitate the St Mary’s 5K and 1K Runs. The run flyer states that the streets will be closed starting at 6 AM Saturday morning and stay closed until the run activities are complete. The proposed street closures include Pleasant Ave and 30th Bay, which basically blocks BBP. Discussions with City of Norfolk Police resulted in the following traffic work- arounds for our community: departing vehicle traffic should use Pleasant Ave to 29th Bay then 29th Bay to Pretty Lake Ave then Pretty Lake Ave to Shore Dr and arriving vehicle traffic should use Pretty Lake Ave to 29th Bay then 29th Bay to Pleasant Ave then Pleasant Ave to BBP. Plan on using these procedures all morning and expect minor delays between the hours of 8:45 am until about 9:45 am when crossing 30th Bay and Pretty Lake Ave (Norfolk Police will be controlling traffic at the intersections of Pleasant Ave/ 30th Bay and 29th Bay/Pretty Lake Ave) . The BOD meeting minutes have been added for July 2011.
October 1, 2011 East Beach Run — East Beach is planning a run on October 1, 2011 that will have major impacts on Bay Breeze Point residents ability to enter and leave our community — see attached info and course. Norfolk Police representatives have stated that they will attempt to route Bay Breeze Point traffic on Pleasant Ave to 29th Bay and then Pretty Lake on departures and the reverse for entering our community. Make Your Home or Business
Less Appealing to Burglars
Homeowners and business owners can reduce their vulnerability to burglary by making sure they have done all they can do to give the appearance of a property that practices good security measures. Deter potential burglars by making it as hard as possible for them to gain entry in your home or business.
Consider these target-hardening suggestions:
Lighting: Ensure that all entry points to the building are properly illuminated. Leave enough interior lighting to detect movement, and make sure blinds or curtains do not prevent detection of activity from outside.
Doors: Check for signs of weakness. Use updated, heavy duty locks that are in good working condition.
Locks: Make sure all doors, windows, and skylights are secured with the best possible locks. No lock is burglar proof, but the harder it is to gain entry, the longer it will take, which increases the chances of a burglar getting caught.
Windows: Secure windows in such a way that they cannot be easily defeated from outside. Make a habit of checking all of your windows on a daily basis. Burglars will look for open or unlocked windows. Businesses should keep valuable merchandise away from windows to prevent “smash and grabs.”
Alarm Systems: Install an alarm system. Research alarm companies and the types of alarms that fit your needs and budget. If utilizing an alarm system, post signage stating that the premises is protected by an alarm system.
Another suggestion is to schedule a free security survey for your home or business by contacting the Norfolk Police Department Crime Prevention Section at 757-664-6901. An officer trained in CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles will conduct an inspection of your home or business and make recommendations that can help make your building safer.

City of Norfolk Declares State of Emergency and Mandatory Evacuation
NORFOLK- City Manager Marcus D. Jones signed a declaration of emergency for the City of Norfolk this afternoon.
The City of Norfolk has upgraded its previous order and is issuing a mandatory evacuation of all residents in low-lying areas. The city urges residents to implement their hurricane plan and stay away from these areas until the storm passes. All residents in these low-lying areas need to be evacuated by 8am Saturday, August 27.

We expect heavy rains, storm surge and hurricane force winds. Roads will flood. Police, firefighters and paramedics will not be able to safely retrieve residents from these areas once the hurricane hits.
People who evacuate should stay out of the city. Evacuees should monitor weather reports, leave as soon as possible to avoid heavy traffic and stay well beyond the projected path of the hurricane.
