Neighborhood Watch — June 2012

Norfolk Police report that larcenies involving vehicles continue to be a problem with the majority of these larcenies occurring late at night in areas that are not well-lighted and involve unsecured vehicles. Our community has experienced some recent criminal activity involving unsecured items relating to vehicles. To prevent such crime, secure your valuables by keeping them out of sight when stored within your locked vehicle(s) and, most importantly, make sure your vehicle is in a secure and well-lighted area.

Norfolk criminals do not restrict their activities to hours of darkness, some residential burglaries have been occurring in the middle of the day, e.g., the 9AM to 1PM timeframe seems to be preferred by some criminals. Good crime prevention and awareness procedures should enhance your security, as well as your neighbors and our community.

Norfolk Police are proactively working with our residents in increasing their awareness of : identifying and reporting suspicious activities; and security habits to adopt. But these actions will be less effective if each of us do not play our individual and team parts.
