How to Handle Solicitors

Are unwanted solicitors ringing your doorbell at all times of the day? If they are, they should have a Norfolk license and proper ID for starters. And, most importantly, you do not have to open your door and/or talk with them. See the attached guides that the Norfolk Police Department just sent out to all neighborhood watch groups.

Availability of Verizon FIOS TV Services in Norfolk

There have been many questions regarding Verizon FIOS TV services in Norfolk, especially after Verizon installed their FIOS cable in our community. City of Norfolk officials and Verizon were contacted in an attempt to obtain the facts on Verizon FIOS TV in Norfolk. The following facts were provided:

City of Norfolk Officials: “Verizon does not have a franchise to provide any service beyond telephone and more specifically they do not now nor have they ever applied to provide service for television type service. The City of Norfolk has met with Verizon and told them that we would encourage them to make an application to provide such services. The City even provided them with a draft franchise agreement. The City contacts them on a regular basis and continues to engage them. Verizon continues to tell the City Administration that it does not want to provide cable or other television services in the City of Norfolk.”

Verizon: Verizon basically endorsed the information provided by City of Norfolk officials by stating: “Verizon does not nor do they have plans to pursue providing FIOS TV services in Norfolk.” Then Verizon stated, if you desire, we’ll contact you if our position on FIOS TV in Norfolk changes.

Bay Breeze Point HOA Potential Direction: Verizon continues to send out marketing letters addressing their competitive rates for bundled services including FIOS TV to our members. This misinformation along with the installation of FIOS cable in our community appears to totally mislead our members on Verizon’s plans. If you’re concerned, please let Verizon know — maybe Verizon will reconsider its actions if enough inquiries are made.

Increased Jet Noise over Norfolk — “Myth or Fact”

With the temporary closure of Fentress Airfield (for repairs), the Navy has relocated training to other locations — with the majority of that training being accomplished at NAS Oceana. Yes, you might see jets flying over our community and Ocean View as they practice approaches to Chambers Field (located adjacent to Naval Station Norfolk), but these flight operations are normal training operations that involve both Navy and Air Force jets — they are not the result of relocating Fentress training during the Fentress airfield repairs. In fact, the Navy has informed the City of Norfolk that there will not be increased jet noise in Norfolk due to Fentress repairs — the Navy said only Virginia Beach will be affected. The Norfolk City Manager’s Office is monitoring the jet noise situation for us. If you feel your space is being impacted by excessive noise please contact both the City of Norfolk and the Navy.
