EOV Crime Alert

NPD December Crime Report for EOV:  one commercial burglary; one residential burglary; twelve larcenies from vehicles (eleven were unlocked, broke window of one to get in); & six stolen vehicles — all were left running with keys inside by gas pumps or parked in front of businesses. And, to start off the new year, a Dolphin Run resident reported a vehicle crime today around 3PM —  while a contractor was inside the home getting info on a potential rehab project, his vehicle was entered and searched for valuables, etc.

Bay Point Dr Public Beach Access Will Be Closed Until June 2022

Just wanted to provide an update on rehabilitation of the public beach access ramp on Bay Point Drive. The contractor, East-West Construction, plans to mobilize on site and install erosion and sediment control barriers during the week beginning January 10, 2022. Shortly thereafter the ramp will be closed to the public and demolition will begin. Because of the tight site conditions, Norfolk has not been able to identify a safe route to the beach for the public through the construction site, so a small sign at the access entrance will direct the public to the ramp adjacent to 4890 East Beach Drive (that’s the first available public beach access point).  To get to 4890 East Beach Drive, you’ll need to exit BBP and turn right on 30th Bay St then take a left on the last street (which is East Beach Drive) then take the first sidewalk on your right to the beach – be advised parking is extremely limited in that area. Final completion of the rehabilitation project is currently scheduled for the first week of June 2022. Norfolk will work with the contractor to find any opportunities for allowing public access to the new ramp prior to final completion. In closing, this rehab work is overdue and will enhance our community when complete.

Unapproved Contractor Marketing Signage

BBP “governing documents” only authorize “for sale or rent signs” and “political signs” not marketing signs that keep popping up. If signage is not authorized by BBP and not one of Norfolk’s required construction related signage, prior approvals are required from both Norfolk and BBP before placing signs on BBP properties.

Update on Pubic Beach Accessway Replacement

Just received the following update from Norfolk: “We have awarded a contract for rehabilitation of the beach access to East West Construction, the same contractor who constructed the beach access at 9th Bay St. They will begin construction in early January, after the holidays, and should be complete sometime in early June. We will be working with the contractor and with the City’s Bureau of Environmental Services to find a way to provide beach access to the residents in the area during construction. It will be a very tight site during construction, and we are going to have to work out some logistics.”
